The second-largest Mega Millions jackpot in history, $1.35 billion, is about to be claimed by a Maine resident who matched the winning numbers earlier this week.

The lottery had reached near-new heights without a jackpot winner since October 14, implying a large payout for the ticket buyer who chose the numbers 30, 43, 45, 46, 61, and Mega Ball 14.

"Congratulations to the Maine State Lottery on winning its first-ever Mega Millions jackpot," said Ohio Lottery Director Pat McDonald in a statement.

"It's the fourth-largest jackpot in Mega Millions history. We appreciate all of our retailers' efforts during this spectacular run, as well as our customers' enthusiasm and support.

I hope the fun and excitement generated by Mega Millions inspires us to be winners in our daily lives and with everyone we meet. Here's to a prosperous year!"

The ticket-win holder's is Maine's first jackpot win and the second-largest jackpot win, trailing only the $1.53 billion won in October 2018.

In 2022, another $1.337 billion was won, and the now-third-largest Mega Millions jackpot was won in Des Plaines, about 20 miles northwest of Chicago.
